Polaris is United’s long-haul business-class product. Start with your flight’s seat map and fare inclusions; do not assume a newly announced suite is installed on every flight. A familiar seat name does not guarantee the same lounge benefits on a different route.
Standard Polaris is not the same as every new suite
United’s Q2 2026 report says its new Elevated 787-9 entered service on San Francisco–Singapore and San Francisco–London flights. That is rollout evidence, not evidence that Newark flights have the new product. Check the aircraft version displayed for the booking you are considering.

How to choose a seat without a universal ranking
For solo travelers, compare distance from the aisle, footwell shape and proximity to service areas. For couples, inspect whether the middle seats actually place you close together; neighboring seat numbers do not always mean equal proximity. A seat-map shape can suggest a layout, but cannot tell you whether a nearby galley will be noisy on your flight.
Before paying for a preferred seat, check whether the fee is refundable if the airline changes the aircraft or assigns you elsewhere. Keep the receipt. If the fare already includes your preferred seat category, do not pay again merely because a booking intermediary presents an upsell.
The lounge and fare check
The Points Guy’s August 2026 glossary describes Polaris fare tiers and notes restrictions on Base fares. United’s policy pages require an interactive browser and could not be fully text-verified in this research pass. Treat the airline’s current booking panel and lounge rules as controlling; we do not represent every eligibility exception as verified.

Ask specifically about connecting segments, the airport where access is wanted, travel date, and guest rules. A credit card that grants United Club access should not be interpreted as automatic access to a Polaris Lounge. Save the applicable terms rather than relying on a third-party summary.
A sensible cash and miles search order
- Search United directly for your actual dates, cabin and passenger count.
- Check whether an eligible partner program can book the same flight; partner availability can be different.
- Compare total cash, total points, cancellation costs and benefits.
- Confirm the long flight is in business, not just a short feeder segment.
- Transfer only after checking inventory and expected transfer timing; then confirm ticket issuance.
If the miles price is high, try adjacent dates or a different European arrival before adding a connection. Repositioning requires its own budget and disruption plan. A nonstop from your preferred airport can be worth more than a nominal points saving.

Are the new Polaris suites on every flight?
No. Rollout announcements do not establish the aircraft version on your booking.
Can I book a Polaris-equipped seat domestically?
Check individual flights. A seat on a domestic flight does not automatically come with the long-haul Polaris service or lounge entitlement.
